I've been craving some new anime lately but I can't seem to find any that sparks my interest. I love anime that relates to the Bakumatsu period, e.g. Shinsengumi, etc. and stuff about demons/vampires. Can anyone suggest any?
FYI, I've seen:
-Samurai Champloo
-Rurouni Kenshin (Series and OVAs)
-Peacemaker Kurogane
-Inuyasha
-Saiyuki (All of them)
-Hellsing
-Wolf's Rain
In particular, I want to get Kekkaishi and Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto but can't seem to find it on eBay for some reason and there's no place that sells them here in Australia. I just get the really mainstream stuff like Naruto (UGGH), Deathnote, etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

If you want all of the above in one anime, then nothing springs to mind,
but you could try the following:
-Basilisk (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4318)
-Vampire Knight (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=9009)(my mistake..this anime will air for the first time next month...yay)
-Trinity Blood (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4874)
-Blood+ (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=5088)
That's just off the top of my head.
I think, that most, if not all have been uploaded to the forum.
If not, just PM me and I'll upload them

OT: Two threads merged, because I don't see why we should have a thread for general anime suggestions and one for certain genre suggestions. :)
My suggestion regarding Vampire themed anime: Trinity Blood.
Although the ending sucks the art is georgeous.

Let's see ... based on the ones you've listed ... how about ...
D. Gray-Man
Claymore
Shigurui
Reideen (maybe)
Blue Gender (old but still good ... and quite "strange", but if you liked NGE, I think you'd like this one, too.)
Silent Mobius (also old, but same reasons apply)

Nelson513: I second the Claymore recommendation -- recommend the manga too as it's still ongoing (the series diverged towards the end and was inconclusive).. I also recommend Speed Grapher
on my to-watch list, but maybe you'd enjoyed them as well:
* Macross Frontier
* Bokura no
* Dennou Coil
* Ghost Hound
* Darker Than Black
* Tekkon Kinkreet
jat450: have you seen Shingetsutan Tsukihime?
highly recommended for anyone: Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (the girl who lept through time)

[from Anime News Network]
Your Rating: 9/10
Reason for Recommending: This is one fast-paced, thrilling, suspenseful anime. I was totally addicted...and am now addicted to watching the second season, Code Geass R2 which is even better than the first...so far. Only 4 episodes released so far. The plot is brilliant and I love the characters. Very well developed.

Title:Baccano! (adapted directly from the Novel(s)... don't think a manga exists for it.... yet, at least.)
Length (Status): 13 + 3 DVD specials
Genre: Action/Adventure/Comedy/Seinen/Supernatural
Description:
Snipbit of Summary (taken from BakaUpdates):
"Baccano", which Narita translates as "stupid commotion", is Italian for "ruckus". Each of the stories in the series involves several unrelated plots intersecting and crossing each other as events spiral farther and farther out of control. Immortal alchemists, mafia operated speakeasies, and many other elements of pulp fiction mashed together for a world straight out of the movies.
Your Rating: 10/10
Reason for Recommending:I highly reccomend this one. You will get the feel of it right from the first episode... so you don't have to invest much time to figure out of its for you or not. I personally loved the web of entangled characters & situations they spiral into. It's jet coaster of emotions... you'll laugh, cry & everything inbetween... it's got it all & fitting ending to boot... at least I was more than satisfied with the way they ended it. Of course, will have to see about the 3 additional DVD specials... I will warn you, though... there is lots of blood & gore, but if it's not your cup of tea but you can overlook it... do give it a chance. My only compaint would be that 'why wasn't it longer?!', becuase there were many characters left unexplored & thus many unanswered questions... Perhaps the specials will shed more light?

Hi!
I need some help with anime suggestions for a friend. She'd like to see something with stronger, mostly female presence. She doesn't like mecha all that much. Also, she'd like to avoid fanservice if possible. (I know that makes it a bit tougher... :))
She likes Saiunkoku, Kyoh Kara Maoh, and very much liked Ruroni Kenshin, but she wants something with the focus on kick-butt female characters instead of male.
I was thinking of animes along the line of Silent Mobius. Does anyone have any suggestions of other animes that might fit the bill?
Thanks hugely!

hmm...Blood+ - if she likes Rurouni Kenshin then she should like this one too.
Ouran High School Host Club

Vampire Knight
Ikki Tousen
That's just a few off the top of my head. I hope that helps. ^^

jChung95: If she likes kick-butt females, then maybe she'll like:
YamaNade, Sunako is seriously awesome, does half-naked men count as fanservice? In that case...
Slayers (strong female lead)
Full Metal Panic
Tenshi na Konamaiki
Black Lagoon (though perhaps her short shorts count as fanservice)
rae214: Yay, romantic comedies are my favorite!
Kare Kano (the animation is a little iffy, but the show is hilarious)
Special A and Shugo Chara (ongoing)
Fruits Basket
Kodomo no Omocha
Full Metal Panic
jat450: In terms of samurai anime, I'd definitely have to recommend Gintama, which is supposed to be a parody anime, it parodies Kenshin a lot, but it's really so much more than that and it's completely awesome. I'd also have to second Kekkaishi and BKI, which are both quite good.

Title: Gungrave
Length: 26 episodes
Subbing Status:
Genre: Action/Drama/ (Halfway through the series it also becomes slightly supernatural).
Description: Brandon Heat and Harry MacDowel were best friends who lived by the law of the street, until one day they picked a fight with the wrong people and their life of freedom was suddenly taken away. With no one to turn to and nowhere to run, the choice to join Millenion, the city's most powerful syndicate, seemed like an offer they couldn't refuse. Now, amidst heartache, tragedy, and utmost betrayal, Brandon must take up the gun and help Harry climb the ranks of Millenion to succeed, in order to protect those he loves, even if it results in the deaths of countless others.
Your Rating: 10/10
Reason for Recommending: The voice acting and soundtrack in Gungrave is superb, and the characters/setting are detailed with a gritty, realistic look. Action scenes are engaging and fun to watch. More so, however, the story is this anime's real shining point. The plot of the story is pretty unpredictable at most times (Leaving you guessing frequently as to what will happen next), and I would say most (If not all) of the characters have great depth, each of them have distinct personalities, appearances, and all of them change (For better or worse) throughout the anime. Lastly, if it means anything to you, this anime was made by the creator of Trigun, Yasuhiro Nightow.

Title:Guardian of the Sacred Spirit aka Seirei no Moribito
Length (Status): 26 Episodes Complete (adapted from Novel & Manga came out later)
Genre: Action/Drama/Fantasy/Seinen
Description: (Taken from MangaUpdates)
Novel Summary:
Balsa the spearwoman is a wandering warrior, who takes on the task of saving lives, in atonement for a past sin. On her journey, she happens to save a prince, and is tasked with becoming his bodyguard. And he is going to need one, for his own father, the emperor, wants him dead.
Manga Summary:
Once every 100 years, a Water Fairy implants an egg into a person who then becomes the Guardian of Fairies. This time, the responsibility falls on Chagum, the second prince of the New Yogo Kingdom. Chagum`s life isn`t easy. The king finds Chagum an inconvenience and attempts to have him killed. As a result, the queen asks a female guard, Balsa, to protect Chagum. In addition to this, beings from another world, known as Nayugu, constantly attack him in order to eat the egg carried in Chagumu`s body.
Your Rating: 10/10
Reason for Recommending: This is such a touching story... The best way to explain it would be it's an amazing mix of Aishiteruze Baby &, oddly enough, The Twelve Kingdoms. I just found the akward bodyguard all of a sudden a foster parent to an equally akward, albeit very mature, child & their experiences while fending off attacks so well told. I caught myself crying a couple of times throughtout this series through the very intense scenes. The spear fights were so well animated... almost like they weren't fighting at all but dancing... if it weren't for the bloodshed. The prince is a child you cannot help having materanl instincts for whereas the bodyguard is totally tomboyish so how their relationship develops is just so sweet despite the horrors they face. The end was a perfect end to the series even though it had me feeling for the charcters involved... but it had complete closure & no hopes for a sequel. I can't say more than this without getting into spoilers so just go try it out for yourselves... I don't think you'll regret it.

Definitely go for Black Lagoon if you like action. Gantz and Berserk may be your thing as well, while Hellsing Ultimate has awesome graphics (not a fan of the series though). You can also find gore in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Cowboy Bebop is a good episodic action series as well. For comedy, you can try Nodame Cantabile, School Rumble, and Full Metal Panic:Fumoffu (the series itself is just average to me).

Now that's new to me. As far as I've heard (from forums and review sites), Higurashi is one of the more popular favourites in recent times. I enjoyed the first season a lot, which was creepy, mysterious, violent and very confusing. However, you'll need to watch the second season for more answers and a complete ending. The sequel was a good watch, but I didn't find it as engaging or scary as the first season.

Well, even though Bebop is considered a classic and loved by many, it's not like it's full of action or comedy. The focus is on characters, the content more mature. If you don't like episodic series, you will find it boring. If you don't come to like at least one character in it, you will find it boring. Maybe if you have seen Samurai Champloo and liked it, Bebop may be your thing as well.

I see I see. Well, maybe I'll give higurashi a try. I've heard that it's a good anime if you like elfen lied (which I do) I've just been skeptical about it because the animation looks a little.. err, not horrorish? I can't think of a good word.
As far as bebop goes, i have no problem with it being mature or if it has fanservice and what not. Maybe I'll try out the first ep and see how it goes tho, I'm not a huge fan of space animes.
thx again :]

Action / mecha : Code Geass - All the info has already been posted by finalfantasylover in his post in this thread...
I really am addicted to R2 much like R1 and can't wait to see what happens every week. It seems like every week there are more cliffhangers and twists which make fun to speculate what will happen every week. GREAT STORYLINE!
Oh , and the animation and mecha are drawn excellent too.

I recently watched Kekkaishi, back to front and I really enjoyed it.
Does anyone know if there will be a continuation or OVA series? The ending was a bit of an anti-climax; it seemed more like an ending to a signficant adventure rather than an end to the series. I'm aware that the manga is still in production (I think), but I really loved the series.

Me too, me too :) I'm still waiting for the next season though i don't know if they are going to make one -.-
still i just think they are waiting till there is more manga stuff...
and... i need your help everyone!!!!
i just don't know what i should watch next, basicly i watch everything i'm not complicated :) of course there are thing that a good anime just should have:
- good style, i don't watch old animes and the first thing i do, i look at the picture of the anime i would never ever watch Ghost in The Shell even if everyone say it's a good anime i just can't...
- i don't like Mecha and Robots, Fullmetal alchemist is ok but animes like Sokyuu no Fafner and Gantz, i just couldn't...
- please no hentai :)
- good storyline, i also like shoujo animes very much, itazura na kiss and special a were great
- and ecchi is not my type either, Sekirei... it was ok but for me it was just good nothing more...
These are just some animes that i watched:
Fullmetal Alchemist
Naruto
Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto
D.gray man
Basilisk
Kekkaishi
Lovely Complex
InuYahsa
Itazura na kiss
Sekirei
Special A
Gintama
Hellsing
Fruits Baskett
Wallflower
Rurouni Kenshin

You're missing out if you haven't seen Samurai Champloo. One of my all time favourites. I'm currently watching Samurai Deeper Kyo as well, which, to be honest, I find quite boring. Having said that, I am only 10 eps in or whatever. But there's been nothing to keep my interested as yet. Saiyuki is also good. But stay away from Reload and Reload Gunlock. I will warn you, that at times, there does seem to be some suggestive Yaoi references, but only if you think that way, I guess, lol. That's the only thing I didn't like about the series.

This thread is where you can post the anime you recommend to people watch!I know it have some threads named "CIREUS ANIME OF THE MONTH" but it just can be posted for a month and if you are like me you can finish the series in less than 1 month. So you can post here as much anime as you want! I decided to make this since I already don't know what anime to watch since I already completed 200 series and all anime I open here are those I don't like to much, at least the art and the summaries don't make me to happy since they are little and don't take us to the real plot of the story.
Then to a member be able to understand more and more the anime itself I hope you can follow the rules I will post.
RULES:
- Put the name of the anime in Bold
- Make a score to the anime (1(to bad) till 10(really good))
- The type of anime, like if is a Movie or Ova or other
- How many episodes it have and if the anime is already complete at Japan.
- Post as well if the Fansub have already complete the subs or if is Ongoing. and a link to the download links to it (only Cireus links)
- Rank the anime (R+; PG - 13; R (http://www.mpaa.org/FlmRat_Ratings.asp); ETC)
- YOUR summary of the series (You need to have watched it yet so you can give your personal opinion of that)
- If you want to make a Spoiler please use the Spoiler tool at the post option
- You can post other things you want but don't be rude to the series or to the poster member. Anyone can have they opinion.
P.S - I searched for a post like this and I couldn't find. If I made any mistake I'm sorry so be free to delete this thread.

Ah, for ANYONE who loves a good samurai type anime, I HIGHLY suggest Stranger Mukou Hadan (Sword of the Stranger). It was just .... it was awesome !!
I've watched this a while back I have to agree with you, this was a AWESOME anime. One of the best I've watched in a very long time.
Well, I've been into mecha anime and stuff lately but my anime recommendations won't center around it. Anyway anime on my to watch/rewatch list are:
Xxxholic [all seasons,movies/OVA] (I finally finished Tsubasa Chronicle, lol)
Monochrome Factor
Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger (this anime always makes me so excited and I don't even really like boxing)
Soul Eater
Heroic Age
Busous Renkin (wonderful action, romantic comedy in my opinion. tha art is good to boot also)
Nabari no Ou (if your into ninja stuff this might be something for you to watch although its not exactly naruto like)
Marchen Awakens Romance
Kateikyoushi Hitman Reborn
D Grayman
Skip Beat
Sousei no Aquarion OVA
Hellsing Ultimate OVA
Switch OVA
Vampire Knight
Kuroshitsuji
Tales of Symphonia
Right now I'm wishing I still had Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny to watch...oh well I'll have to find time to buy or borrow it.

I think Gundam Seed and Destiny are both in the download forum ... I think... lol
Just finished watching D.Gray-Man. Again. For the third time. Jonesing for more, too... We can hope, right?
I have to mention now that I highly recommend certain Naruto episodes -- namely the non-filler, non-Toonami'ed versions. (In other words, the Japanese original versions before episode one-thirty-something.) Shippuuden is shaping up nicely (if one ignores the filler arcs but even those are *horrible*) Ninja, sure, but there is a LOT of story to it, and I'd almost say it's more 'drama' than 'action'. Almost.

Samurai/ninja: Basilisk ~ Kouga Ninpouchou, Jubei-chan, Ninja Scroll, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Samurai Girl ~ Real Bout High School
Swords/fighting: BLEACH, CLAYMORE, Shadow Skill, Tenjou Tenge
Demons/vampires: Angel Sanctuary, Black Blood Brothers, BLOOD+, Blood the Last Vampire, Hellsing Ultimate, Night Walker ~ The Midnight Detective, Trinity Blood, Vampire Hunter D ~ Bloodlust, Vampire Knight (debuts in april), Vampire Princess Miyu, Yami no Matsuei
**Jaw drops**
I'm impressed, I was reallly racking my brain and wow, you listeed just about everything I would have and then some.
I would add Moon Phase (it's vampire but sort of cutesy at a lot of times) and Mononoke for monsters and just the sheer gorgeous artwork.

someone suggested ikkitousen, be warned that has an awful lot of fanservice although the females are certainly kick butt!
I would suggest claymore, shakagan no shana (there are two seasons of that) spice and wolf, perfect girl eveolution (which has a HUGE following on here, you often see it listed as "the wallflower" on download sites, any of the slayers series (the main character, lina inverse is crazeeeeeee) soul eater, shikabane hime aka and shikabane hime kuro, and jikougo shoujo (which there are three season of they all start with jikougo but the last word is different in 2 and 3 but can't put my fingers on them. If you find jikougo shoujo (or hell girl) here on cerius the person who uploaded them helpfully put links to the sequels there, you can jump from that.
