Just a little thread where you can squee or grouch over how the holiday season was!
Mine is over, tomorrow is simply a day of rest and recoup for us.
Whew!
It was good, but it was long. Our Yule and Solstice celebrations were great! Long nights, celebratory food and time with my husband.
Christmas with the parents was today as our *(V. and me) holiday season officially ends tonight. We have our celebration, then wander to both sets of parents on "Christmas Eve" and do the family Christmas thing there.
So I had two of those today.
*grins*
Two meals, two families, two gift exchanges.
Which I came out very pleased from.
Cuteness abounded this year!
The short version? pink pajamas, two sets of pink slippers one from each set of parents, lots and lots of shirts, some jeans, my ever present holiday barbie from my brother, the cutest bulldog toilet paper hold and bulldog alarm clock from my mil, a new wireless router, lots of goodies for the puppies for the holidays, sake', more sake', a stir fry cookbook, chocolates and coffee.
And yes! it's over. not that I don't enjoy the holidays. I do. Most of the time. It's just so hard with so much diversity in our families. Heck, in my home alone. So we have quite the holiday season to get through. But! It's over!
All except a few packages to mail. *grins* which I'll do eventually.

Christmas Eve has been plenty entertaining. Ever driven on the freeway with a 700lb. spa/hot-tub sitting, not in the bed, but on the bed. Like, one end on each side, level with the truck. I felt like an idiot... Damaged the knee, which sucks, since it already hurts all the time anyways and I need surgery, but meh, oh well.
So far so good!

Holidays have been good! The most exciting part was the Weasel Ball. My mom thought she'd get that reaction from the Guitar Hero I/II, or the $100 gift card to Mervyn's. No, she got it from the Weasel Ball. But Guitar Hero rocks! - so much my wrists hurt. And those hundred bucks are goin' straight to my dire need of unmentionables. And shoes. Shoes would be nice too. Mine are falling apart.
Anyway, it all came out good! I liked it. We ate well too. Crazy families...

Families are supposed to be crazy - It wouldn't be any fun other wise.
I had a good Christmas.
My husband gave me a new hair dryer and defuser (which I totally wanted and needed) as well as a new area rug, and slippers - three pairs of cool (ha) slippers, and a new handheld shower head with 5 settings - which I like a lot.
I don't think my husband got all that he wanted - but - there is not much that I can do when he won't tell me what the heck he wants...
I have tomorrow off - and that is a good thing

My Christmas was really good. I got to see one of my nephews before he went with my sister and her husband to his parent's house so that was fun watching the nine-month-old monster try to open everyone else presents, for he loves paper lol. I was very suprised when I saw that my parents got me a television, a good one too, for Christmas, me and my sisters were not expecting, for they got similar gifts. Dinner was very delicious, just wish there was more stuffing to eat lol.
We had two weeks «vacations» so to speak and it was so so. We decided to take 2 days of riding to go see the families: in one shot, it takes approx 7h30 to 8 hours drive and with a 1½ years old we decided against it so 2 days up and 2 days down! (4 days travelling in a Toyota Corolla with 2 adults, a young child and a dog of 60 pounds :p ...)
So the 23 & 24 car travelling. Pit stop at my parents to let them keep our dog because the in-laws don't want animals in the house. 24th, 10 pm, another 1h30 car drive to the in-laws. In the process of opening the gifts, the police knocked at the door (then 1:30 am, 25th) and asked if my father in-law could come outside and check if nothing's wrong because there've been breaks-in in the neighborhood while they where at mass. And yes, he was one of the unlucky ones. A chainsaw, a generator, some tools and about 60$ worth of gas. The generator and chainsaw were recover the next day but not the tools or gas.
On the 27th, my mother called to tell me that her mother - my only grandmother remaining alive - had past away about 1 am that night. Her heart failed, «angine» (don't know if it's the same word in english for in french it means the heart has some irregularity beating and you have to take «nitro» under the tongue to help).
So we packed and up we went to our next stop: my parents. We arrived at the same time my sister did. So together we dedided to take control of the situation knowing our mother would not think to eat having to take care of the funeral and mass and the other family members to call. On the 30th, in the afternoon, everything was finish. And then my mother got sick with a gastro.
But the most particuliar thing is my daughter. When she saw her «grangranmom» like I used to called her, she told us «dodo» (asleep) while pointing my grandmother and at mass, when the priest was finishing, she looked at me then where the coffin was then at me again and said «partie» (gone)... At my knowledge, nobody explained to her what was really appening.
On the 31th, we had a small close family party like we always do, except for my mother being sick so she didn't have to cook the turkey this year. On the 4th, we went back on the road for our 2 days trip back home and on the 5th, finally home, I caught a cold...
On the bright side, at least this year holidays weren't boring :) . But I don't want a repeat for next year - or this year since we are in 2007 and I could do without the cold too.:p

Amazing Holiday! My Mom gave me a cute pink robe w/ Kitties on it and my boyfriend gave me a Bleach hoodie and a green iPod Nano. I made everyone my homemade fudge. I was really happy with Adam's (my boyfriend) reaction to the massive tool set, and Hellsing, FMA T-Shirts I gave him. Awesome Food too! :D
